THE TASK |
Create a logo to commemorate a client's extended family camping trip to Custer, SD.
|
“South Dakota’s natural wonders will leave you in awe.”
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The clients needed a few things from this logo in order to maximize their intentions. Firstly, they wanted it to work on a number of different colored backgrounds, they wanted the logo to look nice printed extra large on the front of children and adult shirts, and they needed the logo to be able to comfortably fit on other merchandise like mugs, hats, and stickers.
As fas as form, the clients were inspired by a handful of festival logos and were looking for something that was compact and succinct but exciting and nature-focused. They also preferred a sans-serif typeface throughout the design and a hexagonal container.

DESIGN PROCESS
To work within these parameters, we settled on a black vector design that would rely on the white space to help form the design and balance the weight of the black. I ended up going with a more cartoonish tree to echo the fun, whimsical nature of the trip while the rocks were inspired by an existing rock formation in Custer, SD. |
THE EXTRA MILE |
One of the clients was quite fond of adding in some crossed oars, which I was unable to integrate without over complicating the design.
I did however create a simple vector oar PNG for the client to consider and potentially incorporate when looking for merchandise printing services. |
